Deepak Bali

Whisky reviewer & collector

I taste every bottle myself, date it and score it — then tell you honestly what I found.

The approach

I’ve been exploring Scotch whisky since 1996. In 1999, my master’s degree work focused on my own Scotch whisky website. Nearly three decades later, I’m still discovering bottles that surprise me.

Every whisky featured here has been poured, tasted and assessed by me. The notes are my own, the scores reflect my experience, and I make no allowances for reputation or price.

It’s simply my considered opinion of what’s in the glass.

  • Personally tasted

Every whisky is sampled, photographed and documented. No borrowed tasting notes or recycled descriptions.

  • Consistently scored

A five-stage assessment and a score out of 10, applied consistently to every bottle.

  • The complete picture

What works, what doesn’t, and what makes a whisky worth exploring. Not every expensive bottle is exceptional, and not every exceptional bottle is expensive.
